There’s a place for every opinion.

Is that true?

Elephant in the dark room

People are seeking the truth. But, not sure how many are asking — “what is truth?”.
Of course, we intuitively know what truth is. Truth is something that doesn’t change, at least in my book of definitions. And, the inverse — false is something that’s ever-changing or that which is bound to change.

Can there be something that’s unchanging? I don’t know.
But, I know a story which relates to this.
It’s about a group of visually challenged people trying to generalise the structure of an elephant using their limited experience (touch).
Though, everyone’s opinion of the elephant seems correct in their own perspective, they get completely wrong when it’s generalised.

The below has been the recurring theme in my life. And, I hope yours too.

I got it! This is the truth.

Hang on. Not exactly.

Maybe, this is it..?

Oh, wow. I never thought of that.

Now, I can’t be sure of anything.

“But, aren’t there blatantly false claims out there? Can’t we say that they’re false?” you might ask. Every truth has some context to it, where it applies, but not necessarily outside of it. I don’t want to give specific examples, but usually when we’re so far from the context of someone’s experience or context, their truths might seem completely wrong from our perspective. This thought gets refined when we step into our opposition’s camp for some time.

As long as we’re directly experiencing something and forming our own opinions instead of being deluded by others believes, there’s at least a logical reason behind what we believe as truth.

This is motivating to me because truth looks inexhaustible (never ending fun?) and more importantly reminds us to be humble and warns to stay not too rigid about our opinions.

Maybe, our fights over truth can rest upon if we research more on “what is truth?” rather on labelling truth. Just an opinion.
